Hvítasunnukirkjan Fíladelfía

What do we believe?

The core of our faith

First and foremost, Fíladelfía is a Christian church. Fíladelfía can ascribe to all of the primary creeds of the Christian church which have been established throughout the ages and partakes in ecumenical activities. It is very important to us to see faith not as simply as an meaningless custom or a habit.

We believe in God and that he hears our prayers; we follow Jesus, who comforts those who grieve, gives hope to those who have no hope, and a purpose to those who perhaps possess everything but lack what truly matters. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is a friend on our walk of faith each and every day and gives us the strength to take on challenges and to be the instruments of God and serve others.

We believe that all people need God. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and if people receive freedom and life from him without deserving it, entirely because of his grace. We believe it is wrong to judge people and we wish to welcome everyone, like Jesus does.

The Creed of the Pentecostal Movement in Iceland

1. We believe that the Bible is the inspired, reliable word of God. (2. Tim. 3:16)

2. We believe in one eternal God, triune, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Isa. 40:28; Matt. 3:16-17; Joh. 1:18; 10:30).

3. We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary. He who was God, emptied himself and came forth as a man, his life was without sin and perfect. (Luke. 1:35; Phil. 2:7; Heb. 4:15).

4. We believe that the forgiveness of sins and peace with God can only be attained through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. The sacrifice of Christ was perfect and is sufficient for the redemption for all those who repent of their sins. Redemption comes by grace, through faith, and is undeserved. It is the gift of God to all those who commit themselves to Jesus Christ. (Joh. 3:16; Ephes. 2:8; Col. 2:13-15; Rom. 10:9-10).

5. We believe in Jesus' bodily resurrection from the dead, his ascension to heaven, where he sits at the right hand of God the father. (Joh. 20:20; Acts. 1: 1-3, 9; 1 Cor. 15:3-4).

6. We await the second coming of Jesus Christ, when he will call his church unto himself. We expect the new heavens and the new earth where justice resides. (Acts. 1:9-11;  Rev. 21:1;  2. Pet. 3:13).

7. Those who become followers of Jesus Christ receive the Holy Spirit as a gift. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, our minds and our actions will change and become aligned with the word of God. The christian should with time become more like Jesus, in word, deed and attitude. (Gal. 5:22-23; Rom.12:2; 2. Cor.5:17; Heb. 12:14; 2.Pet. 3:11).

8. We believe in the importance of the baptism in the Holy Spirit and of the gifts of the spirit as they are described in the New Testament. (Acts. 1:8; 1. Cor. 12 and 14; Ephes. 4:11-12).

9. We believe that the Church was founded by Jesus to be a means for God's continued work on the earth. We believe that baptism in water is only for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. We baptize by immersion, to the Lord Jesus Christ, in the name of the Trinity. Communion only carries meaning for those who have received the grace of God and are disciples of Jesus Christ.  (Col. 1:18, Matt. 28:19).

10. We believe that eternal life in heaven awaits those who are redeemed and eternal perdition those who reject salvation.  (Matt. 25:46; Joh.3:16; 1. Thess. 4:17).
